Vivadon wale Baba

"Dont try to be a Baba Ramdev," said one of our esteemed profs while asking us to take up small doable projects. Surely, Baba Ramdev has taken up a task without knowing how and what is he going to achieve from his protests. It is very easy for him to tell the government to bring back the black money but does he know to the smallest detail how this can be done. How should the bill/ordinance be framed to achieve this, who would be responsible to ensure its adherence, there are so many questions which need to be thought of and answered before starting such a protest. He doesn't even know what exactly he wants from the government (read PM) as an assurance of acceptance of his demands.

To add to all this, he has now come up with the idea of creating a Nationalist Force. He is planning to train thousands of volunteers in arms. Even when the arms are used for self-defence, it is considered to be violence. How could he even think of calling his protests as non-violent and himself as an ardent follower and supporter of Gandhi's principles? The naxalites and terrorists also claim that they use arms only to protect themselves and their interests. This move of his would also misguide many and propagate the use of arms. If not stopped now, this would be just another force to bleed India.

The cause might be good but the means adopted has nullified it. We need to take the cause forward but not the means. I believe this cannot be achieved by just framing laws but by revolutionizing our judiciary system. The 2G scam case would also be like the Satyam case which would be in news for some months and then no one (accused, judiciary involved, politicians, public) would give a damn to it. Only when our judicial system is much more effective and efficient, can we go ahead and have laws to stop corruption and bring back our hard earned money.

I would differ with you on the preparedness part. Baba or anyone cannot have 100% solution for everything before asking for it.

You know law and order is a problem in some states. You cant expect that individual to have a solution for that. As a citizen we can only point to the issues and it is for the government to come up with an effective system. It is not difficult to bring back the black money stashed abroad. We have enough brains in the bureaucracy to frame effective laws for it. In fact if you put pressure on other countries such as Switzerland, they might be willing to share the information. Once they share it make it public and punish the individuals or ask them for the source.

The problem here is not with the mode but with the willingness to do it. Because if you do that most of the politicians would be exposed.

All the money right from Bofors scam to 2g scam would be in one of these safe heavens. Why would they reveal it?

Regarding other aspects like armed forces etc i agree with you.

If one is leading the country or even a small part of it on some issue, it is expected that he should have some idea on what is to be done and how it is to be done. That way everyone can just protest on removing corruption. These protests are not going to take us anywhere. What we need today is a leader who can at least draft a way to get back the black money.

Drawing a parallel to the protest by Hazare, he at least had in mind the framework which could be used to reduce corruption.

If our demands are ambiguous, our ministers are smart enough to give ambiguous responses and do away with it. And this is what is happening.

That shows the political establishment is unwilling to do act on it. Even if proper framework is given, they do not act on it (Anna Hazare case). So what difference does it make? And i am not sure what was proposed to Baba and what he rejected. I wont believe Kapil sibal or for that matter any politician. I feel it is not right on our part to make assumptions. (Though i have my doubts on Baba's capability to analyse the solution suggested by the Government).

One simple google search will give infinite solutions such as http://in.news.yahoo.com/blogs/opinions/dirty-money-not-just-black-072507737.html#more-id
The thing is that the government wants to have at least one loophole (if not multiple) so that they and their benefactors to get into trouble (read some of the richest businessmen of India). And they are using all possible means politically (Going ahead even if the Anna and co. dont attend meetings), administratively (police action) , diverting the attention (towards RSS)to let people forget this issue. Also, one of the major concerns of the government is that people have fresh memories of the Middle East event and any laxity on their part will result in their losing power. And once out of power through a public uprising, the current government's political future will become very dim. Thus, they dont want the public protests to grow.

The means might have mitigated it definitely have not nullified it, even if it was not right (your perspective). Remember had it not been Baba, things would have died already.

If govt doesn't have means or willpower or whatever it takes to tackle the stupendous uphill herculean task, its a shame to say the least in largest democracy of the world.

Last but not the least, Baba bhale hi vivadon wale ho, but at times you have to fight for your right if you don't get it automatically. Remember you can kill a man (read politician/Baba) with a bullet but not an idea as it is rightly said "nothing can stop an idea whose time has come". Waiting for that time...
